current shoe obsession
alas, the sneaker. (because I live in nyc and walk a ton!) but not too sneakery of a sneaker. more of a sneaker disguised as a shoe, like a mary jane style or a high-tech looking black one with a metallic accent. how about Royal Elastics? I must go try some on. I really like the non-sneakeryness of their styles.

of birds and trees stackable teapot for one

To make a long story somewhat the same length, I saw this faux bois stackable teapot at The Plaza's "Foodhall" last Fall, and while I was still deciding if I wanted it for the last eight months, surprise, someone bought the one and only one they had. So cut to yesterday and finding it online from a florist in Houston, but then finding out the shipping will be more than the pot, I said no. Cut to today and Ebay and finding it for less + free shipping, I clicked "Buy It Now" with fervor (at last, a decisive act vis-à-vis this teapot), and it's already on it's way to me. Color me pleased with Ebay once again.

no

I could not own this tissue box cover, knowing there is "Hate" on the other side. I could not hate in the bathroom. It is so un-harmonious.

best in show: wobbly plates by brigitte bouquet

When your plates look this delicious, you have to raise the level of your cooking.

This past Saturday at the Brooklyn Flea, I spotted an exciting new vendor: Wobbly Plates by Brigitte Bouquet. These "thick as pancakes" plates are so colorful and pleasingly handmade with blunt edges and lace-like textures pressed right into the clay. They look tasty enough to eat (on). I can imagine a fun dinner party or two or three with these plates.

I like the classifications Brigitte has made on her Etsy shop: these are reserved for cupcakes, and these for crostini. A cupcake and crostini party sounds right up my alley. That gives me an idea... Follow Brooklyn-based Brigitte on Twitter to see when she will be exhibiting her beautiful ceramic wares again! I think I will be purchasing in the very near future.

buddha bowl, or i meant to tell you (#2)

I meant to tell you (#2) about this giant mug that looked really perfect for a big bowl of tea, or a small cup of soup. It is called the Buddha Bowl, by Flavour Designs. I saw it on Delight.com last week.

Did you notice how many products on Delight.com are also endorsed by Oprah? Like this one. And this too. What is the connection I wonder. Advertorial? Paid placement?

I have another question. What is Buddha-like about this bowl? Why not just call it Ample Soup Mug with Handle. Or something.

i have a thing for 50s planters

My most recent acquisition: this beautiful crinkle-cut 50s planter in speckled mint green. Isn't the shape great? I have a small (developing) collection of these ceramic planters. At least they don't take up too much space. I think the most I have paid for one is $5. This one was free!

I know your home needs adorning. Brooklyn-based Perch! has humorous birdlike offerings for your nest (Sorry Amy, I know you dislike bird puns, but I couldn't resist). Designer Amy Adams showed her latest creations at the prestigious International Furniture Fair at the Javits this past Spring. Her designs are popping up at quite a few great boutiques. Check perchdesign.net for more information.

raku vessels

In a little game I might call "Trace the Influence," I like to try to figure out what inspires design products. Flipping through the new West Elm catalogue this morning, I found these raku vessels. There is something about this shape that is so familiar, yet new and striking. To me, they look like amalgams of Chinese ritual bronze vessels. I will keep hunting for a better image comparison. I think I have a book on ritual bronzes somewhere.

In other news, Spring is just around the corner. Really! I always like to rush the season and force cuttings of forsythia. It is a great way to bring Spring into your space. And you may want to treat yourself to a new vase to display your blooms.

In other other news, I scored a perfect 5 out of 5 on my first Chinese quiz yesterday. I learned how to say "thank you" (xie xie) among other things. It was exciting. Onto the next lessons.
